Make time to train
I OFTEN get asked how I find the time to stay fit.
Like all women, especially mums, my schedule is very full, and managing all my duties is a juggling act.
Time is the most valuable commodity, and it often gets lost when things aren’t planned.
But your personal health should never be compromised, so here are a few tips you might use to ensure you always have the time to keep fit and healthy.
Prioritising is vitally important. It doesn’t matter what the task is, if you don’t make it a priority in your life, it will be left behind.
How high you prioritise your health and fitness will determine your commitment.
Your health and fitness is important and affects your capacity to perform other tasks, such as your work or your ability to enjoy time and care for your family, so give it the priority it deserves and it will soon become a regular part of your life.
Another question I’m often asked is, ‘‘When is the right time to exercise?’’ The simple answer is, ‘‘Whenever you can.’’
If you’re to make the most of your day, you need to train when you can and not necessarily when you want to.
You may prefer to exercise in the mornings but only have time in the evening.
Don’t hesitate, just do it. You will soon become accustomed to exercising at this planned time.
As for how much time you need to exercise, it all depends on what you can manage.
Some days you may only have time for 10 minutes and other days an hour.
To get the maximum benefit of the time you have, you need to exercise efficiently.
For example, an easy option for a 10-minute workout is a 10-minute run, out and back.
Work on beating your time coming back.
Maximum effort in minimum time equals fit.
This is a great lunch time workout, or, if you’re even more pressed for time, you can try my six-minute workout (see PDF link below).
