Fun’s the word as run returns
SURF Coast businesses are jumping on board and lending their support as the Mother’s Day Classic fun run/walk returns to Torquay.
The May 13 event is a major fundraiser for breast cancer research and is being well supported, with registrations flowing in, volunteers putting their hands up to help and sponsorships coming from local traders.
Organiser Diana Robertson said she was rapt with the community’s enthusiasm for the event.
‘‘It’s been a great response from the local community,’’ Ms Robertson said.
‘‘I have many busy mums volunteering their time with promoting the event and being involved on the day.
‘‘I have approached some local businesses and they’ve been great with support.’’
Among the sponsors to sign up so far are major backer Café Moby, Torquay Links Property, DBM Signs and Surf Coast Party Hire.
Ms Robertson said Torquay IGA would donate fresh fruit at the finish line and Bakers Delight outlets were involved on a national level while also supporting the event locally.
‘‘We have great prizes for the first male, first female and first mum with pram to cross the finish line.
‘‘The Sands Torquay has donated a fantastic stay-and-play package. We have a number of gift vouchers donated from Soul Skin, Nadz Art, Stuff and Nonsense Photography, Geelong and Surfcoast Doula Services.’’
The 4km event starts at Surf Beach Drive and follows tracks around the Torquay Golf Club. More information can be found at www.mothersdayclassic.com.au
